A.C Stairlifts - Reconditioned Stairlift

How We Recondition Stairlifts

The 4-Step Bootle Workshop Process · Every Lift, No Exceptions

A reconditioned stairlift is only as good as the workshop behind it. Every lift we sell — from the £1,100 Acorn/Brooks 130 to the Stannah 260 — goes through the same four steps in our own Bootle workshop: strip-down inspection, new batteries every time, rig testing, and a rail cut for your exact staircase. Here is exactly what happens before a lift earns our 12-month parts and labour warranty.

Step by Step

The 4-Step Reconditioning Process

01
Buying & Strip-Down Inspection

We only buy the best donor lifts — most come through our own buy-back service, so we know their history. Every lift is then inspected inside and out: damaged parts and casings are replaced, and new batteries are fitted as standard, every time.

02
Workshop Rig Testing

The lift is installed on a temporary rig in the Bootle workshop and run again and again. Drive mechanism, arm controls, seat swivel and every safety feature — belt, sensors, limits — must all pass. A lift that cannot pass is never sold; it becomes spare parts.

03
Cutting the Rail for Your Staircase

After your free home survey, the rail is cut to your staircase’s exact specification, with charge points and final limits positioned correctly. The full circuit is tested again before the lift ever leaves the workshop.

04
Installation & On-Site Re-Test

Chris fits the lift personally, then re-tests everything on your staircase and demonstrates it to the user and family — because 100% confident in the workshop still deserves proving in your hallway. Then the 12-month parts and labour warranty starts.

If a lift cannot pass every test, it is never sold. It is stripped for spare parts — which is exactly why the ones we do sell carry the same warranty as new.

Reconditioning Process — FAQs

What actually gets replaced on a reconditioned stairlift?

Anything worn or damaged found at strip-down: casings, worn mechanical parts, and always the batteries. The drive mechanism, arm controls, swivel and every safety feature are then proven on a workshop rig before the lift is approved for sale. If a lift cannot pass, it is never sold — it becomes spare parts.

Yes — every single one. Batteries are the main consumable on any stairlift and degrade even in storage, so we fit new ones as standard during reconditioning. You start the clock from fresh.

The lift is installed on a temporary rig in the workshop and run repeatedly — drive mechanism, arm controls, seat swivel and every safety feature. After the rail is cut for your staircase, the circuit is tested again before it leaves the workshop, and the whole lift is re-tested and demonstrated in your home after fitting.

Properly reconditioned, yes — the safety-critical parts are inspected and replaced rather than taken on trust, and every lift is load-tested before and after installation. We have answered this in depth here: are reconditioned stairlifts safe?

Mainly the straight-lift workhorses — the Acorn 130 and Brooks 130 (including the newer T700 generation), plus the Stannah 260 for curved staircases. See the full range on our reconditioned stairlifts page.

Mostly from our own removal and buy-back service — we pay £200–£250 for popular models and collect them professionally, so we know each lift’s history from the moment it comes off the wall. Only the best donors make it to the reconditioning bench.

The same cover a new lift gets from us: 12 months parts and labour, backed by 24/7 breakdown support and no call-out charges within warranty.

Reconditioned Acorn/Brooks 130 — £1,100 fully fitted; 130 T700 — £1,300; reconditioned Stannah 260 curved — from £3,200. Every price includes survey, fitting, testing and the warranty; the full breakdown is in our 2026 stairlift cost guide.

I rang Chris t maybe replace the batteries on my old stairlift . He came the very next day to check it for me . We both agreed "Old Clunky" needed scrapping . I was worried I'd be left with no chairlift , but Chris came the next morning and installed my new one ! Exceptional service , and a very reasonable price too . . I could not be happier . Nothing too much trouble and chris went through all the controls with me . Great to go upstairs and know it's all safe for me . Highly recommend and thanks so much Chris 😊 Alison Creighton

Excellent service from A.C Stairlifts. Chris came out after hours this evening to repair the stairlift after we worried about my elderly mum not being able to use it. He was so kind, friendly and professional and did an excellent job. I can't recommend Chris and A.C Stairlifts highly enough. Thank you so much.
