The UK’s Most Popular Stairlift Solution
Reliable, affordable and fast to install — here’s everything you need to know.
A straight stairlift is the ideal mobility solution for staircases with a single, uninterrupted flight of stairs — no bends, landings or curves. They are significantly more affordable than curved stairlifts, faster to install (often next-day in Liverpool, Bootle and Merseyside), and just as safe and reliable.
At A.C. Stairlifts, we supply two of the UK’s most trusted straight stairlift models — the Acorn 130 and the Brooks 130 — both available brand-new, professionally reconditioned, or on flexible rental. Every installation includes a free home survey, a full 12-month warranty and 24/7 breakdown support, all from a family-run team based right here in Bootle.
Whether you need a stairlift in Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley, the Wirral or the wider North West, our local engineers can be with you fast — often the very next day. Reconditioned straight stairlifts start from £1,100 fully installed.

Built for Safety, Comfort & Reliability
Every straight stairlift we supply comes with these essential features as standard.
Slim, Space-Saving Rail
Sits close to the wall and leaves the staircase fully usable for the rest of the household.
Powered Swivel Seat
Rotates safely at the top so you can step off onto your landing without twisting.
Battery-Powered
Continues to work in a power cut. Auto-charges at both ends of the rail.
Soft Start & Stop
Smooth, gentle acceleration and deceleration — no jerks or sudden stops.
Safety Sensors
Stops automatically if an obstruction is detected. Safety belt and locked-key included.
Folds Away When Idle
Seat, footrest and armrests fold up to keep the stairs clear when not in use.
Manual Hinged Rails for Doorways
A hinged rail is a folding section at the bottom of a straight stairlift track. When the stairlift is not in use, the lower section of the rail folds up and out of the way — keeping the entrance to your hallway, front door or back door completely clear of any track that would otherwise create a trip hazard.
We fit manual hinged rails as standard on any straight stairlift installation where the staircase ends close to a doorway, an internal threshold or a tight corner. The hinge is operated by hand using a simple lift-up mechanism — there are no electrical motors involved, which means fewer moving parts, less to maintain and complete reliability for years to come.
Manual hinged rails are compatible with every straight stairlift we supply — including the reconditioned Acorn 130 and Brooks 130 T700 as well as our brand-new straight stairlift range. If your stairs finish less than 30cm from a doorway, hallway opening or another walking route, we will recommend a hinged rail as part of your free home survey, at no extra charge for the consultation.

Straight Stairlifts — Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before you buy or rent a straight stairlift.
How much does a straight stairlift cost in Liverpool & Merseyside?
Reconditioned straight stairlifts in Liverpool start from £1,100 fully installed with a 12-month warranty included. Brand-new models coming soon. The exact price depends on your staircase length and the model you choose. Book a free no-obligation home survey for an accurate quote — call 0151 314 4884.
How quickly can a straight stairlift be installed?
Most straight stairlifts take just 1-2 hours to install. We often have reconditioned Acorn 130 models ready for next-day installation, subject to a quick home survey. For brand-new models, allow 3-5 working days for delivery and fitting.
What is the difference between reconditioned and brand-new straight stairlifts?
Reconditioned stairlifts are returned units that our engineers have fully refurbished and tested to manufacturer specification. They cost significantly less than new and come with the same 12-month warranty. New models come direct from the factory with the latest features and finish options. See our reconditioned stairlifts page for more.
What is the maximum user weight for a straight stairlift?
Both the Acorn 130 and Brooks 130 have a maximum user weight of 21 stone (133 kg / 295 lb). For users requiring a higher weight capacity, we can supply specialist heavy-duty models — call 0151 314 4884 for advice.
Are straight stairlifts safe? What safety features are included?
Modern straight stairlifts are extremely safe. Features include a seat belt, safety sensors that stop the lift if anything is on the stairs, a powered swivel seat for safe dismount, an emergency stop, a key-operated on/off switch, and battery backup so the lift continues to work in a power cut.
Do you remove old stairlifts?
Yes. Stairlift removal is included with every new installation when applicable. We may also pay cash for qualifying older models. See our stairlift removals page for full details.
How long do straight stairlifts last?
With regular servicing, a straight stairlift typically lasts 10+ years. We offer annual servicing to keep your stairlift safe, reliable and warranty-compliant. Most parts can be replaced if needed, extending the lifespan further.
Do straight stairlifts work during a power cut?
Yes. Both models we supply are battery-powered, with the batteries automatically charging at both ends of the rail. In a power cut, the stairlift continues to work for many trips before recharging is needed — so you’re never stranded.
What areas do you cover?
We’re based in Bootle, Merseyside, and cover the whole of Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley, Wirral and the wider North West — including Manchester. See the areas grid above or call 0151 314 4884 to check your postcode.
