Honest Diary, Honest Answers
The Honest Question
Repair It, or Replace It?
When you call, we give you both numbers — the repair and the replacement — and let you decide. Every price we charge is in our 2026 cost guide.
- ✓Flat or ageing batteries — the most common fault and the cheapest fix.
- ✓Minor faults on a sound Acorn straight lift that is only a few years old.
- ✓A lift we fitted — covered by warranty and 24/7 support anyway.
- ✓Major faults on an older lift — a big repair bill on borrowed time rarely beats a reconditioned Acorn 130 at £1,100 fitted with new batteries and a fresh 12-month warranty.
- ✓Hard-to-get parts or a model nobody supports locally any more.
- ✓We buy back working 130s (£200; T700s £250) against the new installation — and stocked straight lifts fit the next working day.
Repairs & Batteries — FAQs
Which stairlifts do you repair?
For lifts fitted by other companies, we stick to what we know inside-out: Acorn straight stairlifts (including the 130 and T700 generations we recondition every week in our own workshop). Anything we installed — whatever the model, including the Stannah 260 curved — is always looked after under our warranty and breakdown support.
Do you replace stairlift batteries?
Yes — battery replacement is our most-requested repair, and we offer it for Acorn straight stairlifts and Stannah stairlifts for local customers across Liverpool, Sefton and the wider Merseyside area. Batteries are the number one cause of stairlift problems, and a fresh set often transforms a lift that seemed on its last legs.
How do I know my stairlift batteries need replacing?
The classic signs: the lift beeps or shows a warning light, runs slower than it used to, stops part-way up the staircase, or will not move at all after a power cut. Batteries typically last a few years and degrade gradually — if your lift is doing any of the above, describe it on the phone and we will tell you honestly whether it sounds like batteries or something more.
My lift was fitted by A.C. Stairlifts — what happens if it breaks down?
You call us any time — 24/7 breakdown support with no call-out charges is part of every installation we do, during your 12-month parts and labour warranty. Our own customers always come first in the diary.
How quickly can you come out?
An honest answer rather than a promise: Chris fits stairlifts full-time and prioritises our own warranty customers, so repair slots for other lifts depend on the diary that week. When you call, we will tell you straight away when we can realistically come — and if we cannot get to you soon enough, we will say so rather than leave you waiting.
How much does a stairlift repair or battery change cost?
We quote a fixed price on the phone once we know the model and the symptoms — no call-out-plus-hourly surprises, and no charge for the conversation. If, once on site, we find the fault is bigger than described, we tell you before any extra work, not after.
Is it worth repairing an old stairlift?
Sometimes — and sometimes honestly not. New batteries or a minor fault on a sound Acorn straight lift? Usually worth it. A major fault on an older lift, or parts that are hard to get? A reconditioned Acorn 130 at £1,100 fully fitted — with new batteries, a fresh 12-month warranty and 24/7 support — often costs little more than a big repair, and we buy back working 130s (£200, or £250 for T700s) against the new installation. We will give you both numbers and let you decide.
Can you take my old stairlift away if it is beyond repair?
Yes — if the lift is beyond sensible repair we can remove it professionally, and if it is a working model we buy (Acorn/Brooks 130s, T700s, Stannah 260s) we will pay you for it. See our removal and buy-back page, or just ask when you call.
